WalkWays

Walkways

Walkways
Defined as a path or passageway for pedestrians, a walkway is a large part of landscaping in our modern-day. Many home and business owners have pedestrian passageways with interconnecting ramps, stairs, sidewalks, bridges and even pergolas. These walking passages are also commonly widespread among public places created for recreation and viewing pleasure like parks and large hanging gardens.

These pedestrian paths are designed in many different shapes, sizes and styles. They are also constructed from a variety of different materials. Some of the more common types include brick, stepping stone, pavers, wood slice, stamped concrete, gravel, pallet wood and mulch. Not quite as commonly used, some more elaborate items for constructing a walking area are Mosaic pebble, bluestone, tumbled glass, and even bamboo. Many design their pathways with decorative edging throughout the length of the entire walking area.

Home and business owners often find themselves needing a safe and direct path from one portion of their property to another. This passageway should also be attractive and free of uneven areas or defects that could be dangerous.

It is important to first lay a proper foundation for the stones or other objects to keep them stable and prevent anything from becoming unlevel or out of alignment.

After cultivating the soil for depth and slope a material like crushed gravel or sand should be spread and properly leveled to ensure professional results. Being sure to have a proper foundation installed beneath their walkway beforehand also ensures owners that they will have sufficient drainage of rainwater away from the area. If excess water were allowed to collect underneath the pathway the bricks or stones could rise or sink creating an obvious hazard. This is especially true when freezing rain is present (well Fresno doesn't really get that much rain anyways, so if you you are looking for xeriscaping we are the best choice for you!).

The goal when installing an outdoor walking path is to create a safe passageway from one area of the property to another. Sometimes home and business owners prefer a combination of different materials for constructing their passageway.
